Attaching files to a Marl conversation

Paid plans can attach up to four files of 10 MiB each, in TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON or PDF.

Use Attach in the composer. Attachments require Starter or above; the Free plan has none.

What is accepted

  • Formats: TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON or PDF.

  • Size: up to 10 MiB per file.

  • Count: at most four files in one message.

A file outside those limits is refused before it is sent, and the composer says which rule it broke.

Images

Images are read rather than attached as documents: send one and Marl will describe it, extract what it can read, or write alt text for it. Marl will not produce an image in return, on any plan.

Where attachments go

They are stored with the conversation they belong to. Deleting your personal Marl data removes your personal attachments along with the conversations that used them. An attachment shared into an organisation conversation stays with that organisation.

Attachments are not part of a public share link: sharing a conversation publishes the messages, not the files.

If an upload fails

Retry once — an upload can fail on a poor connection. If it fails again, the file is outside one of the limits above, whatever the message says.
